52 stakeholders from Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the United States came to Brussels to discuss and share the latest innovations and most promising solutions being tested in several cities across Europe. It provided a unique chance to showcase results, pilot activities, and key outcomes from EU-funded projects and city initiatives, fostering knowledge exchange and accelerating the adoption of sustainable urban freight practices across Europe.
The event builds on the Brussels Green Deal on Urban Freight, of which POLIS is a signatory: it is a regional initiative aimed at achieving zero-emission city logistics by 2030. Signed by around 60 stakeholders—including major retailers like Delhaize, Colruyt, IKEA, and logistics companies like Bpost and Ziegler—it promotes cleaner, more efficient freight transport. The agreement encourages emission reduction through modal shifts to electric vehicles and cargo bikes, better logistics planning, and innovation. Signatories commit to concrete actions, regular progress reporting, and collaboration to support sustainable urban freight across the Brussels Capital Region.
The programme of the event was structured around the four “A” of the Brussels Green Deal: Awareness, Avoid, Act & Shift, Anticipate. On the afternoon of the first day and morning of the second day, participants had the opportunity to engage with experts and peers to discuss challenges and share best practices. On the afternoon of the second day, site visits enabled participants to see some of the innovative solutions deployed by Brussels Green Deal members in practice.
